Interview: Josephine May

We chat to Josephine May ahead of the launch of her exhibition ‘The Tale of the Talking Shoes’, which was held at the Flying Dutchman, London, 14-16 September 2017. This interactive exhibition explored personal narratives about shoes, and the adventures they take us on. Josephine shares her thoughts on physical vs online exhibitions, and the fantastical properties of footwear.

Discussion: favourite shoe moments in film

Film Noir entrances, transformative heels, and was red the colours of his shoes too… some very famous moments in iconic films have all starred wonderful footwear. We mention Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity and Lana Turner in The Postman Only Rings Twice; red shoes worn by Sandy in Grease (1978), Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz (1939), and of course The Red Shoes (1948) – but also, red shoes worn by a mysterious man in Amelie (2001).
